World Ocean Day: Advancing Ocean Sustainability

June 12, 2023

Join us in marking World Ocean Day, a global event held by the UN Environment Programme to raise awareness about the importance of the ocean and to promote its sustainable use. Our team implementing the Ocean Governance Project is dedicated to the well-being of the ocean every single day. This EU-funded project is coming to an end in December 2023, after four successful years of activity.

The project is engaged in restoring corals & mangroves, while enhancing the protection of marine ecosystems in South-East Asian Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). It aims to foster improved management of Atlantic MPAs through shared environmental protection, facilitates knowledge exchange between the Atlantic and South-East Asia, and strengthens transboundary dialogue among ocean stakeholders in South-East Asia.

Recently, the project team organised a regional workshop in collaboration with the CTI-CFF, bringing together experts and stakeholders from four South-East Asian countries. Simultaneously, a workshop was held in Brazil for MPA managers.

The Ocean Governance Project acknowledges that the ocean has no borders and recognises the importance of both ecological and human connectivity. The project has successfully fostered these connections over the years, and we extend our best wishes to the team for the final phase of this endeavour!
