Uganda: Further Onboarding of Business Development Experts for Green Growth

May 27, 2025

GOPA Worldwide Consultants, in collaboration with GIZ WE4D Uganda and the Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development (MGLSD), officially launched the Business Development (BD) Expert Onboarding in Northern Uganda, with further sessions held across Western, Eastern, and Central regions.

The onboarding began in Gulu District from May 12–13, 2025, followed by Mbarara District from May 15–16, Mbale District from May 19–20, and concluded in Kampala District from May 22–23, 2025. During these sessions, selected BD experts were trained and equipped to deliver gender-sensitive business diagnostics as part of the WEEG-UWEP project that is supporting 600 women groups under the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme.

These experts will work directly with women-led groups engaged in sustainable agriculture, agro-processing, eco-tourism, and the circular economy, helping to build inclusive, green livelihoods across the regions. By supporting these groups, the project is not only empowering communities but also driving Uganda’s transition toward a greener, more inclusive economy.

GIZ’s Employment Promotion for Women in the Green Transformation in Africa (WE4D) Uganda formed a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development (MGLSD), which serves as both a political and implementing partner. MGLSD holds the official mandate to oversee gender-related issues and the promotion of green jobs in Uganda. In line with this, the Ministry established the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) in 2015/2016, aiming to empower Ugandan women by increasing their income levels and enhancing their contributions to the country’s economic development.
