Prof. Dr. Andreas Wiese

Managing Director, GOPA-International Energy Consultants GmbH

Since 2014, Prof. Dr. Andreas Wiese has been Managing Director and operationally leading the Renewable/Sustainable Energy part of Intec's business. Within the GOPA Group, Intec covers the entire international business segment of energy engineering and consultancy. Prior to joining Intec, Andreas worked for 18 years in the technical consultancy business for another prominent German consulting firm, wherein he started in 1994 as a Ph.D. engineer, studying and designing wind, solar, and other renewable energy resources and the respective RE technology plants, and then later lead since 2000 an entire renewable energy department. In his last position before joining Intec, he was responsible for the business development of a complete energy division. Andreas thus possesses significant expertise in the international consulting industry, having first designed and engineered and later managed and coordinated renewable energy technology projects for more than two decades.

Andreas has extensive experience in the project management and direction of renewable energy technology projects for IFIs such as the World Bank, KfW, ADB, EBRD, GIZ, and IFC, plus extensive experience in privately financed renewable energy projects, so-called RE IPPs. He has been a lecturer on renewable energy and electricity economics subjects for over 8 years and has authored more than 200 publications on renewable energy subjects. He has also published various papers on renewable energies and edited the Springer book "Renewable Energies - Technology, Economics, and Environment, which has been on the market for more than 15 years and is now in its 5th edition."

Even though most of us are personally and professionally engaged in the energy transition nowadays, Andreas has been an expert on this matter even before governments, politicians, and the overall society shifted their attention toward it. He has a comprehensive understanding of the energy sector, its functioning, its interrelations, and its impact on the environment and our social society.

Dr. Andreas Wiese holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Stuttgart, Germany, and an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. In addition to his industrial career, he has been lecturing on various renewable energy economics-related subjects at the Technical University of Hamburg since 2009 and was awarded an Honorary Professorship at the Technical University of Hamburg in 2018.
